You may be wondering, what exactly is business consulting? If so, you’re just like me a short time ago.
Despite my life long exposure to the world of entrepreneurship and my own 12 years of experience running businesses, I had not heard of a business consultant.
Not too long ago, I found myself at a crossroads of sorts, trying to figure out what the next step would be for me in life. My kids (all five) are in school full time now which opened up my daytime hours considerably and my previous business wasn’t bringing me joy the same way it used to. I felt pulled to find a new path but I had no idea what the heck that would (or should!) look like.
I decided to follow the advice I had given a close friend of mine, which was “Write down every skill you have gained over the years and make a list of your strengths. Don’t forget to asterisk the ones you particularly enjoy!” By doing this, I found what could be considered the outline of a path but I still had no clear idea of what this meant for my future.
During a conversation with my husband, he struck an inspirational cord within me which led me down a google fueled rabbit hole. Lo and behold, the description for business consulting sat there seemingly waiting for me.
The more I read, the more I realized this was a career path suited perfectly for me. All of my skills, strengths, and most importantly my interests laid within this scope of work!
Here I sit today, a certified business consultant, ready to help other small business owners fuel their passions while reducing the noise of the hurdles we all face every day.
I suppose I should offer a definition at this point, hey?
According to Wikipedia “A business consultant is a professional who provides professional or expert advice or service in a particular area”.
This may seem like a relatively broad definition but it is perfect for me with my wide variety of knowledge and experience!
So, cheers to learning new things, paving new paths and creating the life of our dreams!
